Coining - Mixed Ages

The Nevada State Museum staff is excited to announce a new series of medallions that celebrate Women’s History by honoring the women who were an indelible part of Nevada’s story. The series’ debut medallion honors Agnes Scott Train Janssen, one of the Nevada State Museum’s first curators. The medallion release event will be on Sunday, March 13, in honor of Women’s History Month at the museum from 11:00am-2:00pm. Participants will have an opportunity to purchase a half ounce, .999 fine silver blank in the Museum store for $75, and then watch as it is minted into their very own Agnus Train medallion on Coin Press No. 1. After receiving your medallion from our Minting team, you are invited to join museum staff and community members in Loftin Park, to celebrate Agnes Train’s contributions to the museum with educational and informational activities. Reservations are not required. The silver medallions will be minted on a first come first serve basis.

Prior to retiring, I worked 46 years in nursing in med-surg clinical settings, LPN/ADN/BSN education, and as a Family Nurse Practitioner primarily with adults with chronic medical problems, post surgical care and rehabilitation. Serving as a docent, enriches my lifelong interest in people and events that made and make America what it is.

My background is in education in the fields of PE, history, ESL and I retired as a high school librarian. I became a volunteer for the NSM because I wanted to meet new people, learn about Nevada history and then share that history with folks. The Nevada State Museum challenges me and gives me a great deal of satisfaction and a lot of pride in being able to share what the museum has to offer.

Before coming to NSM I volunteered as a docent at the UC Davis Science Center in Incline Village. In addition, I documented research projects, helped with displays, help produce a 3D video about Lake Tahoe and produced a time-lapse video about a wetland restoration project. For 8 years prior to moving to Nevada I was a full time faculty member at an art college in Atlanta where I taught courses in design, including computer graphics and digital photography. And that's only since moving west.
