Frances Humphrey Lecture Series - Adult ages 18 & up

October 31, 2021 will be the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Nevada State Museum. As part of the birthday celebrations there will be a lecture on Thursday, October 28th chronicling the interesting things that have happened here over the years. Arrival of notable collections, expansion of facilities, installation of exhibits, and honors received. We will celebrate one of Nevada's oldest museums and it's story of preserving and sharing the natural and cultural heritage of the Silver State. Join us as we wish it another 80 years of service to Nevadans and enjoy the new "The Nevada State Museum Turns 80!" exhibit. Curator of Education, Mina Stafford has been working closely with recently retired Curator of History Bob Nylen to make this story come to life. Before he retired Bob Nylen served the Nevada State Museum for 37 years and has put together other presentations on the history of the museum. Mina Stafford has a Masters Degree in Teaching from George Washington University and enjoys research all different aspects of history including museum history. The lecture requires museum admission, $8 for adults and free for members and children age 17 and younger.

Cora J - Education Program Aide

My background is in education in the fields of PE, history, ESL and I retired as a high school librarian. I became a volunteer for the NSM because I wanted to meet new people, learn about Nevada history and then share that history with folks. The Nevada State Museum challenges me and gives me a great deal of satisfaction and a lot of pride in being able to share what the museum has to offer.
