Frances Humphrey Lecture Series - Adult ages 18 & up
Nevada has a deep history of earthquake activity due to our unique tectonic setting at the edge of the extensional province of the Great Basin. The state is blessed with a complex network of faults which produce our beautiful landscapes and plentiful natural resources but also pose a seismic hazard which is challenging to define. Join Professor Christie Rowe of the University of Nevada, Reno, Seismology Lab in this presentation of Nevada's earthquake activity; review historical and recent earthquakes that have impacted Nevada's communities and industries; present the current seismic monitoring program; and describe current efforts to expand our knowledge and increase seismic safety across the state. Christie Rowe is a field-based earthquake geologist who serves as Director of the Nevada Seismological Laboratory at UNR. This lecture will be presented in person. Admission is $10 for adults, members and children ages 17 and under are free.
